Hi everyone, I am Misty Rushlow and I am one of the Moxxie Muses!!! Today I am going to show you how to create this wonderful little album using the Road to Recovery line! This can either be an album or a card to give to someone very special. This line of paper is one that is very dear to my heart and I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful the paper and all the embellishments are. When I opened up my box and found this collection, it literally brought tears to my eyes. Cancer has been a disease that has touched myself and my family extremely hard. In 2000, my father was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and he fought a LONG battle for 8 years. In 2007, I myself was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and I started my treatments. From then on our family was hit pretty hard....my dad's twin was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and is still fighting treatments today; another aunt was diagnosed with Brain Cancer, and she lost her battle in 2009; my grandma was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and lost her battle in 2009 also; a cousin who was diagnosed with a VERY rare sinus cancer and we lost him in 2010; and another aunt who has been dealing with skin cancer. So needless to say, this is one line of paper that is very close to me and I know how very special it is!!
I wanted to create an album or card that could be given to someone that is fighting any kind of illness as a reminder that we care!! I have made several of these and given them away as gifts with gift cards in each pocket, or have each family member write a saying or their feelings on the inserts. Whatever it may be, this will be a gift that everyone will cherish. If you want to turn it into an album, attach photos on the inserts and do some journaling!!!
Here we go!!!!
Open your file folder so that the tab is on the top right hand corner.
Then take the bottom of the file folder and fold it up so that the bottom of the left hand corner meets with the notched out corner on the let side. This is going to make your pockets.
Take your file folder and now turn it upside down in front of you. It's going to look like your pockets are upside down.
Take the right side and fold it in towards the center fold. You are going to want to line up the area that the tab is cut out of, the center fold. So when it is folded over, the very top is actually hanging over the fold line, on the left of the fold.
Now turn the entire file folder over so you are seeing the back of it, keeping the last fold still folded.
Now take the left folded area and fold it over to the right. Just like in the photo.
Take a bone folder and run this down the crease of the fold that we just made. Do this a couple of times so that you can make a clean fold. Scoring it this way is going to give you a spine that is clean and even!!
Take and fold this crease back to make your final fold of the file folder.
Now turn your file folder over so that when you look at it the tab is on the right top corner and when you open it the pockets are on the bottom. You have now created your file folder album/card!! YAY!!!
Now you can begin decorating your file folder the way you want to. I find it is the easiest to go through and write all of my measurements on each of the areas where I will be putting paper. This way when I go to cut, I know exactly what size I need!
To seal the pockets, place scoretape (double sided adhesive) on each side of the folds and both outer edges. Then peel the backing off of the tape and bring the bottom up and press to seal. (Look at the picture, it should make better sense that way!!)
To close the folder shut, you will want to place your ribbon on the back of the last page BEFORE you put your paper down!! Take your adhesive and place it down where you are going to want your ribbon placed. I usually go a couple inches up from the bottom...give or take a bit!! You will need about 24" of ribbon. Find the center of your ribbon and place that in the center of where you put your adhesive.
You have now figured out how to create your file folder album/card!! I hope you enjoy making these as much as I do!! Once you begin to make them, you will become a pro at it...you will be able to do it in your sleep!!!
