I have a very dear friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She suddenly found herself taking several different medications, each of which came with its own list of potential side effects. She asked for a journal so that she could track her symptoms every day. I had one at home which I brought back to the hospital the next morning, but I added a simple, handmade item to cheer and encourage her: a bookmark using Moxxie’s Road to Recovery collection.
I traced a 3”x 6.25” tag onto a piece of the collection’s Journey paper, positioning it so that I captured the words “my journey” as shown in this picture:
I reinforced the top with a circle punched from the same paper, flipping it over to reveal the grey side before I created a hole with my Crop-A-Dile. Next, I assembled a few charms onto a Tim Holtz Ideology Charm Clip which I had in my stash, and tied it onto the top of the tag with coordinating baker’s twine.
I decorated the reverse side by following along the curved design of the paper to fussy cut a section which included the text “my road to recovery”, then trimmed it to fit the tag. The floral circle at the top is from the Road to Recovery Die Cuts.
To finish off the bookmark I added strip journaling with one of my favorite inspirational quotes. It is from A.A. Milne. Christopher Robin tells Winnie the Pooh,”Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
